About us
The Centre for Sustainable Energy (CSE) is an independent charity supporting people and organisations across the UK to tackle the climate emergency and end the suffering caused by cold homes.
CSE has developed the Energy Choices Tool in partnership with consumers and energy experts. The tool marries together two aspects of CSE’s work – championing social inclusion and fairness in the energy transition and providing energy advice mainly in the South and South West of England.
Energy Choices Tool development is supported by two electricity distribution network operators, National Grid Electricity Distribution and Northern Powergrid. Six electricity network operators manage the power cables regionally across England, Scotland and Wales. They are responsible for connecting your home to power, moving your meter, registering you for the Priority Services Register or helping you if there's a power cut. Electricity distribution operators ensure that the electricity you buy from your chosen energy supplier gets to you safely. They're not your energy supplier and they don't bill you. National Grid Electricity Distribution has 220,000km of electricity network spanning the East and West Midlands, the South West and South Wales. It connects over 20 million people to the power they need via eight million meters. Its mission is to ensure a clear, fair and affordable energy future for all customers. It works strategically with local communities and partner organisations to deliver services to thousands of customers: helping to reduce fuel poverty; enabling access to low carbon technologies; providing support and care to customers with a range of additional needs.
Northern Powergrid manages the electricity network that powers everyday life for more than 8 million people across 3.9 million homes and businesses in the North East, Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire.
The Northern Powergrid Foundation, a grant-making charity established by Northern Powergrid, provides financial support across the distribution area to help create resilient and thriving communities.
