Smart energy option finder
Find the right smart energy options for you
The smart energy options that are appropriate for you will be based on:
- Your priorities – managing fuel costs, comfort, cutting carbon emissions or adding to existing technologies.
- Your personal circumstances - health, home, daily routines, use of IT.
Of course, your priorities and circumstances will change over time. You can revisit the Energy Choices Tool and explore new situations at any time by changing your question responses. If you edit your responses, you might need to answer other linked questions.
How it works
You will be asked to respond to a series of questions about your home, your use of digital devices, any smart energy options you currently have or may be interested in.
The Energy Choices Tool identifies the smart energy options that most meet your responses by creating a ‘Match score’. The match score is a percentage, shown as a bar for each smart energy option. This score is based on:
- Whether you can take up the smart energy option. Most options have ‘Essential requirements’ to take them up. For instance, some options need a smart meter.
- Whether you can get the most from the smart energy option. Some options have ‘Desirable’ aspects, which means you’d benefit more from the option if you had it. For example, being able to shift your electricity use will help you get the most from solar panels. If you don’t meet a ‘Desirable’ requirement you could still take up the option. You need to work out if it would be worthwhile.
The Energy Choices Tool lists the smart energy options, selecting those with the highest match at the top. If you click on the match bar for a smart energy option, information on how the match score percentage was calculated is shown. (You might not want that much detail; it’s there if you do).
You can filter and sort your results list in different ways based on your interests (e.g. by annual running cost savings). By selecting the smart energy options you’re interested in, you can generate a bespoke results report.
